I started the day with a parent-teacher conference for Mary at her preschool (who even knew they did these for three year olds??). The teachers laid down heavy praise for Mary and said she was a delight to have in their classroom. Mary's skills are all "very advanced" and she listens well and gets along well with others. I left the conference just bursting with pride at our little prodigy.
And I came home to Greta, who was bursting, too, but in a different way. Her incisions have gotten infected and were literally gaping open in many spots. We returned to the vet and they stapled (yes, truly, using a staple gun) the incisions shut again. They also drained a lot of fluid from her chest, where she is swollen from the tissue removal. We hope that this will help her recovery, which has been so slow and painful thus far.
We also received the pathology reports from the vet today, which indicated that all three tumors were Grade II (out of III), but that the margins were clean. That is truly good news! They do not recommend radiation at this point, but we'll have to see about chemo or another steroid-type drug to keep future tumors away.
In addition to all the above bursting, I am also bursting with gratefulness. My wonderful neighbor Pam watched the girls for me this morning, and came back this afternoon to again watch them while her husband Gary helped me take stumbling, drunk-on-tranquilizers Greta to the vet. How lucky we are to have such incredible neighbors and friends.
