Frankengretastein

Poor Greta looks like a cross between Frankenstein and a hair cut gone terribly wrong (Ryan, come to think of it, it looks like the buzz cut I gave you acccidently back in middle school!). Her surgery was on Thursday and she has been in unbearable amounts of pain. They were very aggressive with the surgery in order to get clean margins around the tumors, as you can see by this photo. (We'll spare you the pictures of the other two incisions!) These tumors were all no bigger than a pebble, yet she has three 6-8 inch incisions.

The first night home from the hospital, she could not even find a way to lay down because all sides of her were hurting, so she stood and whined and cried incosolably through the night. She would fall asleep standing up, only to wake up as she began to collapse. It was truly the worst night imaginable, with only two hours of sleep to be had.

The next morning, I returned to the vet to receive a quick training so that I could give her more potent pain-killing injections. (Me, terrified of needles, giving my dog injections without even wincing! Proves you can do anything for love.) Those helped slightly, but by today, we have resorted to tranquilizers to help her get much-needed rest. Poor girl is just miserable and it breaks my heart. She looks at us as though we've betrayed her by allowing this torturous act to be done. I only hope that the results are worth the trade-off.

We get the grading and cytology reports later this week. Please keep her in your prayers!
