This past weekend, I left the girls overnight for the first time since Lucy has been born. And given that my only overnights away from Mary were a quick business trip to St. Louis and the hospital stay to have Lucy, I think it's apparent that it was high time for a getaway.
My wonderful friends Kate and Heather (shown here on the rainy, windy Carmel beach) whisked me off to the ocean, where we enjoyed the freedom of a leisurely dinner and staying up late without having to worry about the pitter patter of feet (or paws) coming to wake us at ungodly hours. It was bliss.
Our quick 24-hour trip gave us all much-needed respite, and reminded me of how important it is to nurture our friendships in addition to nurturing our families. I'm convinced we are better mothers because of it!
