The day has finally arrived! After weeks of waiting on structural calculations, tomorrow is the day that our architect is headed downtown to submit our plans for review and permitting. The plans include our remodel upstairs, as well as some retrofitting and retroactive permitting for structural support on the main level of the house.
We have been warned that the plans will likely not be approved for 'over the counter' permits because of their complexity, which means that we will have to endure a three-week review process before we know whether or not the city will approve our project. And, with this belly growing bigger every day, that three-week wait just seems like a lifetime.
So, on the eve of this visit to the city, I'm really hoping that the plans qualify for permits tomorrow so that we can get started on the project. Which leaves me wondering.... is it St. Joseph who can help with this, the patron saint of the home and family? Or should I be saying Hail Mary's? Both? Anyone with a direct line to the Big Guy who wants to put in a good word for us, we'd really appreciate it. (And when I say Big Guy, I mean you-know-who, but if you have a direct line to the city permitting office, I'm willing to consider your contact a Big Guy, too. And I'm willing to bake him a giant batch of chocolate chip cookies.)

Well Megan, I think you ought to march right down to the permit office with your architect with the girls in tow, and look beseechingly with those big blue eyes of yours....he (she) would give it to you right then and there! You have our prayers for a quick response so you can start building ASAP. xo
