Regardless of political affiliation, we all must rejoice that racial equality has improved to such levels in this nation.
Earlier tonight, I was explaining to Mary that this election is historic because it is the first time an African American could be our president. I gave her a brief history of our country, and explained the sad circumstances of many Africans becoming African Americans. Slavery is a heavy subject for a four year old, so I tried to simplify it by saying that they were forced to do all of the chores, including the cooking and the cleaning.
About an hour after our conversation, a thoughtful Mary piped up, "Mom, this election is just the same as Cinderella. She had to do all the chores, too!"
A Cinderella Story, indeed. And a very proud moment for our country.
