Eight is Great!

Mary hosted a slumber party for her 8th birthday. The girls topped ice cream sundaes, played Pictionary, completed a scavenger hunt, and giggled themselves into dreamland. It was a fun evening for all.

We were a bit worried about the aftershocks of a slumber (or likely, not much slumber) party because Mary recently attended a slumber party and the following day became a surly, grouchy teenage-like kid. But, fortunately, the day after her slumber party, we enjoyed our sweet and pleasant Mary. Which was important because we had big plans!

Chiara was in town, so we had high tea. We set the tables with fine china, and my mom and sister filled them with tasty and beautiful treats that could rival the famous Empress Hotel. No white gloves or silly hats were required, but the girls (and adults) all had a wonderful time.

Even Ryan and Liesl managed to get into the fun. I cannot confirm this hearsay, but I believe each may have tasted Gram's scones for the first time (truly a taste to behold for anyone, but especially those who are only used to eating oatmeal and peas), and the two baby cousins loved toy tug-o-war and giggling on the sofa together.

Yep, it's official Eight is pretty great.
