Lucy is always good for a quip or two. Here's her latest during dinner last week:
"Mom, you know how you always tell me I need to stop growing so fast?" Lucy asks.
"Yes," I reply.
"Well, I know how I can stop growing."
"How's that?" I inquire.
"By not eating dinners," Lucy says, and then adds, "especially not THIS one!"

But, she's growing anyhow, as you can see from her first day of school pictures.

And, speaking of growing up, Papa Buck celebrated his birthday last week. Mary made him painted ponies for the celebration, in honor of the horses he loved so much on our trip to Central Oregon. Mary did nearly all of the work by herself!

We think Papa appreciated the effort more than the circus peanuts and extra-sticky-sweet-chocolate frosting! (Next year, we'll be sure to make something with oatmeal and figs and raisins, Papa!)
