Our four little raised beds in the backyard have been extremely productive this summer. My daily bounty looks something like this bowl above. So, it was appropriate that we used garden produce to create a birthday luncheon for my dad, King Jim of the Green Thumb.
We enjoyed an heirloom tomato tart that included fresh basil and some of our gorgeous copia tomatoes which I proudly nurtured from seed beginning in April (I felt like a new mother when they finally ripened!), and an arugula, cucumber and cherry tomato salad.
The cake had to follow the theme, of course, with a little garden atop a chocolate layered confection. Happy Birthday to Papa Buck, AKA my gardening inspiration!
